A set of colored lights or colorants that can be combined to generate a range of different colors

Although it is sometimes stated that a set of three color primaries can be mixed together to create any color, it is a fact that this is not possible. It is possible to create any hue, but there is inevitable loss of chroma or saturation when mixing colorants or colored lights, respectively.
