Options for Updating Tiles

You have four options for updating a live tile:

→ Local

→ Scheduled

→ Pull

→ Push

The first two must be initiated when your app (or a background task used by your app) is running. The last two can be initiated no matter what state your app is in.

Regardless of which approach(es) you use to update a live tile, you can set an expiration date with TileNotification’s ExpirationTime property (a nullable DateTimeOffset). The different types of notifications have different default expiration times. When live tile content expires, the tile reverts back to its original state.
