It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 16. Sybase Backup & Recovery
Sybase has provided two utilities, dump and bcp, to facilitate the backup and recovery processes. But like Informix and Oracle, these utilities provide only a basic backup ability. At this point in time, using these utilities, it takes more than just running one simple command to make sure the data server can be restored from any calamity. Because running the various commands by hand could lead to errors (and lack of sleep for the operators), environments without a commercial utility must use backup scripts of some kind to automate the process and provide consistency. This chapter provides a solid foundation in Sybase backup and recovery techniques, so in case your server suffers an unexpected problem, the data server can be fully restored.
