Chapter 5. Using Files and Directories
This chapter is all about showing you how to use files and directories “the Unix way.” You have done most of the things in this chapter before, using the Finder. This includes seeing what files and directories are available, copying files, renaming files, and getting information about files. In Aqua you use one application (the Finder) for many different file-related tasks. In Unix you use many different applications (that is, commands) to navigate among directories and to create, change, delete, and examine files and directories.
Almost every command you use in Unix involves one or more files or directories. In most cases, when we say “file” when referring to Unix, we mean “file or directory.”
