Compatibility Testing
Not all deployments are build-outs of entirely new infrastructures. Sometimes you're installing a new file server or upgrading your Web servers to the latest platform. Unit testing ensures that each individual component of the deployment works, but in an existing environment, you use compatibility testing to ensure that new components are compatible with the existing infrastructure. You can address compatibility issues during the system design phase, but just because you planned for compatibility doesn't mean it will work. That's why compatibility testing is so essential.
