There are two types of Azure solutions. The first is a “hosted server” model in which you rent servers hosted in the cloud and administrated through the Azure portal. The second model is “BizTalk Services,” which are actual stand-alone Azure services that have similar functionality to some of the BizTalk on-premise processes, but are otherwise unrelated. In this chapter, we’ll look at both models. What you will find is that with the hosted server model, you can migrate your existing solutions just as you would to any other new BizTalk 2016 environment, while with the BizTalk Services model, you are dealing with a completely different technology, one that will require a full rewrite of your components.
