Death Comes Knocking for Us All
ABOUT FIVE YEARS ago I received a call from Joe Budzinski, the COO of the ICCFA, The International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association. The ICCFA is the second largest organization in the world involved with the death care industry. Joe had read my first book and thought that maybe I could explain why the number of funerals and cremations in the United States had fallen off dramatically in the last ten or so years while his industry had been preparing for the exact opposite. Apparently a famous futurist, demographer, and author had keynoted an ICCFA conference in the early 1990s, during which he had advised the industry to prepare for an avalanche of dead Baby Boomers starting in the year 2000.
