Appendix D: Examples of Artistic Methods Used in Organizations
From 1986 through 1988, Marjorie Parker of the Norwegian Center for Leadership Development conducted an organization-wide visioning project in Hydro Aluminum Karmøy Fabrikker, described in her book Creating Shared Vision (1990). This project provided participants (comprising the entire organization, working in small cross-level, cross-functional groups over a period of eighteen months) with the opportunity to employ multiple techniques including songs, poems, limericks, sketches, collages, models, and drawings to explore, develop, and ultimately own a vision of KF as a garden, a metaphor which originated with the managing director of the facility.
