5. Adding Gadgets to Your Blog

Objective: To enhance your blog with the addition of sidebar gadgets.

One of Blogger’s most useful features is the ability to add subsidiary page elements, called gadgets, in either the sidebar or in the main column of the blog page. You can use these gadgets to add descriptive text, pictures, links, lists, and the like to your blog.

Understanding Gadgets

Gadgets—sometimes called widgets—are small application modules that display in your blog’s sidebar. Each gadget has a dedicated function; some are fun, some are practical, some are merely decorative. All gadgets are sized to fit properly in the sidebar, as you can see in Figure 5.1, and you can add as many as you like to your blog.
