Chapter 9 Community Entrepreneurship: The Cases of the Lumber Enterprise in Ixtlan, Mexico, and the Pubs of Rural Ireland

To explore the variety of ways that social entrepreneurship manifests itself, this chapter looks at two very different instances of the practice. One is an intentionally created system of community-based businesses in a rural Mexican village. The other is a fixture of economic and social life in Ireland, which has evolved organically over the course of the past one hundred years or so. Despite their very different origins and trajectories, both systems face challenges relating to interactions with the world outside the community.
