Chapter 7. Working with Data
In this chapter, you learn how to use Shape Data fields, add new ones to shapes, link them to external data sources, create reports that tally them, and apply graphical adornments that visually highlight data.
The ability to work with data makes Visio special. With data, diagrams become more than just pictures, transforming into interactive data-entry surfaces, configuration and estimating tools, status dashboards, and visual inventory systems.
Many Visio shapes come prepopulated with fields, and you can add your own. After shapes have Shape Data fields, you can fill them out one by one or link them to external sources.
