Have you ever seen one of those pattern eye tests that asks if you can read the words, something like Figure 8-1?

Most likely, you were able to read the text in the pattern test, even though the letters have large chunks of visual data missing. It says

Your mind creates patterns to read this

We can read it because our brains are wired to look for patterns and to fill in any blanks ...
