5 Value and benefits realization
Value is rarely straightforward to analyse in a consistent manner as it embodies not only quantitative aspects (such as ROI) but also intangible elements (e.g. reputation and achievement of common good). Value is therefore as much a matter of subjective judgement as it is a statement of priorities. Accordingly, the clear articulation, measurement and assessment of value constitute important elements of project governance. What value is must be clearly laid out during project initiation (e.g. product vision or business case) and continually tracked throughout the project. Value must therefore be the focus of benefits realization, assessment and management during and beyond the project lifetime.
