Abstract: The “Banter Principle” describes cases in which an offensive utterance (for example: German: “Du Arsch!” or Polish: “Ty draniu”) is not addressed by the speaker to the interlocutor with an aggressive intention, but it is intended to be an expression of admiration which reinforces the relationship with the Addressee.
