Preface

Violence and War in Culture and the Media is bringing 18 experts for the first time together in one cross-disciplinary volume, focusing on theoretical and empirical issues relating to violence and war and the implications it has on media, culture and society.

The majority of the scholars participated in the ‘Violence and War in Culture and the Media Lectures’, I had the pleasure of organising for the Humanities Department and the Centre for Popular Cultures at the University of Hull, during the 2009–10 academic year. I am indebted to Professor George Talbot, former Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, for his encouragement and support in this endeavour.
