7 From Frontal to Hybrid Courses in Higher Education

Introduction

The hybrid delivery approach relates to courses, in which some of the traditional, frontal face-to-face lessons are replaced by online synchronous or asynchronous learning activities (see Garrison and Kanuka, 2004; Arbaugh, 2014). There are various alternative terms for hybrid courses (HCs) such as e-learning, internet learning, distributed learning, network learning, tele-learning, virtual learning, remote learning and web-based learning.
