- In the 12 years that have passed since the year 2000, processors speeds have doubled roughly every 18 months, or quadrupled every three years, for an aggregate gain of roughly 1,000 times. If the trend continues, over the next 10 years, they will be roughly another 500 times faster than today’s processors.
