Sizing the Server Roles
In the previous section, we talked about the SharePoint server role workload characteristics. In this section, we will use the HP and Microsoft SharePoint sizing tools to generate a sample configuration for a SharePoint farm that includes high availability. Although these sizing tools do a great job at sizing physical servers, in a virtualization solution that uses very powerful or “big-iron” hardware, there will be the opportunity to reduce a lot of server and storage requirements generated by these tools.
