This chapter covers the ideas of performance, in addition to the management and monitoring of that performance, of the Oracle database server running on vSphere. All four V’s (viability, value, versatility, and vision; see Figure 8-1) are discussed in this subject area. Database administrators (DBAs) need insight into the metrics, which reveal the performance of the database and the levels of the stack that directly and sometimes indirectly affect the running database.
