Summary
The Giza Plateau is experiencing environmental damage from tourism and the encroachment of Cairo. To this end, a Masterplan was commissioned by UNESCO to provide for the sustainable management of the site and to protect the remaining archaeology. The plan concentrated on the impacts created by tourists and the local tourism industry and proposed the removal of visitor amenities to the edge of the Plateau, in order to protect the monuments.
