Generally speaking, applications you develop need an execution environment that offers services, tools, and libraries. For many years, for applications built with Microsoft Visual Basic, the execution environment has been the Microsoft .NET Framework. In previous releases, the .NET Framework was a unique environment for building a variety of applications, including desktop applications, web applications, and apps for mobile devices.
