How to Instill Discipline

Indeed, how is discipline instilled? Discipline is a recursive activity; the more you work in a disciplined manner, the more disciplined you become. The main way of instilling discipline is by acting in a disciplined manner. But how do you get started? How do you "pull yourself up by your bootstraps"? What if you, like me, are not disciplined?
