An Introduction to Medical Visualization in Clinical Practice
Abstract
This chapter describes the diagnostic use of medical volume data in radiology, nuclear medicine, and radiation treatment planning. First general criteria for the quality of diagnostic processes, such as sensitivity and specificity, are explained. A brief discussion of relevant aspects of visual perception, primarily the perception of contrasts in gray value images is provided. According to the focus on diagnostic processes, we carefully discuss radiology, where the large majority of medical image data are acquired.
