Virtual Endoscopy

Abstract

Endoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that is used by pulmonologists to diagnose bronchial diseases, such as lung cancer, by gastroenterologists to detect changes of the colon wall, and by a number of other medical disciplines. The cameras attached to the tip of an endoscope provide full color images of internal structures at high resolution. Endoscopy is an invasive diagnostic procedure where sedation of the patient is necessary and complications may occur. Thus, it is an essential goal to reduce the necessity of such procedures.
