Chapter 4. Using PropertyCollector and SearchIndex
The first half of this chapter introduces you to the PropertyCollector, which provides universal services to retrieve any property from any set of managed objects from the server side. Several samples are provided to demonstrate how to get properties, traverse the inventory, monitor changes, and retrieve notifications.
The second half of this chapter introduces you to SearchIndex, which helps you search for a managed entity in the inventory based on various criteria. SearchIndex is not used as often as PropertyCollector, but it provides a quick way to obtain a managed entity. To help you decide when to use which, this chapter analyzes the differences.
