Introduction

The purpose of this book is to guide you though the most popular and recommended configurations of vSphere 4, with particular emphasis on VMware’s ESX and VirtualCenter (now officially called vCenter). It is not intended as a complete reference, but does cover associated products and features, such as VMware High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), Fault Tolerance (FT), and VMotion.

When writing this guide, I used a mix of hardware—some old and some new. My equipment has two CPUs, four network interface cards (NICs), and connectivity to a fibre-channel storage area network (SAN).
