APPENDIX 6

16mm Film Camera Depth of Field Tables

These depth of field tables are for 16mm film shooting and were derived from the website www.dofmaster.com. They can be photocopied so that you have them handy on the set. They cover some of the most common lenses used in 16mm film photography. If you do not find your specific lens among these examples, you can easily create your own charts at www.dofmaster.com or at www.panavision.com/tools.php. DOF master also offers depth of field software for the Palm OS® platform, which can be used for both film and video shooting. To calculate depth of field, it’s essential to remember that the circle of confusion (CoC) for 16mm film is 0.0006 inch (.015 millimeters).
