The approach in this section is to describe the H.323 functions pertaining to Gatekeeper discovery, endpoint registration, call management, and other key H.323 operations. I also explain the role of H.225 and H.245. These examples are not all-inclusive, but represent a sampling of the RAS function.
H.323 uses a logical channel on the LAN to manage overall signaling activities. This channel is the Registration, Admissions, and Status (RAS) channel. The RAS signaling function uses H.225.0 messages for a variety of support operations, discussed next.
