Now that we have clarified the layered approach, let's take a closer look at the data link layer and the network layer, the two key layers relevant to VRRP.
A.2.1. Link Layer
Although there are various kinds of data link layer media, we will focus primarily on the types that are relevant to VRRP: Ethernet, FDDI, Token Ring, and ATM LANE (LAN Emulation). The difference in these media types affects VRRP and how it behaves on each of these media from an implementation and configuration perspective, so it is important to have a good understanding of the different media types.
