6.3. Trade-Offs in VPN Availability
As in any design and engineering endeavor, network design and engineering involves balancing different trade-offs. In our specific context, the balance can be between security and redundancy, availability and costs, and some other combination of these. To discuss these topics let's revisit a branch office of the enterprise that we introduced at the end of Chapter 2. In this specific case, we assume that the enterprise under discussion creates its private network using IP-based techniques. Figure 6-4 illustrates the LAN configuration of a branch office.
