Chapter 7. Medical-Legal Wants: Understanding Interventions

When we’re sick or injured, we turn to our providers for help. When we call 9-1-1 or run to our hospitals, doctors, and clinics in an emergency, we’re asking them to intervene in our situation to make us better, repair our injuries and, in extreme circumstances, simply keep us alive. It’s an intervention for our care. In this chapter, we focus on interventions that provide nutrition, give us blood and medicines, help us breathe, restart our hearts, or treat pain. Learning your different options can help you or your health care representative make split-second decisions that reflect your wants, wishes, and wills.
