Scheduling Application Design Model
Because the application requires a dynamic data structure, we have elected to tie the application into a database using Allaire's ColdFusion. The ColdFusion code included here is very straightforward and could be easily replicated using VBScript, Jscript, or any other active server page engine that you prefer.
To support a scheduling application, it was necessary for us to create a back-end database system that can supply the scheduling data to the WML code as needed. Therefore, we have created a very small Microsoft Access database that will hold all the data we need for our scheduling application. The database consists of a single table with a couple of columns as shown in Figure 17.1.
