Abstract:
This chapter discusses gasification and pyrolysis as alternative methods to grate combustion. These processes are important alternatives to combustion since they produce fuels, chemicals, electricity or heat from waste. First, the theory behind gasification and pyrolysis is discussed, along with key differences between these processes and full combustion. This chapter also provides an overview of the products that can be made from gasification, environmental issues and different types of gasification processes.
