Transformation of waste combustion facilities from major polluters to pollution sinks

Abstract:

This chapter describes the development of waste combustion in terms of its environmental compatibility. Starting in the 1980s, public opinion, legislation and regulations, and technological advances have resulted in significantly reduced air emissions, which have had an almost negligible impact on health and the environment. The improvement stages are discussed as examples for the United States of America, Japan, Germany and the Netherlands.
