COMPOSITION

This refers to the placement of objects or shapes on the paper. Here are a few examples of differently shaped compositions.

You can observe how the overall shape of the pieces fits together to lead your eye on a particular path through the picture. That is the essential thing to remember about composition. As the artist, you are leading your viewer through the picture. A great way to learn composition is to look at historical artists; see if you can identify an overall shape or design that they used to get you to look at the focal point of the picture.
