Five years ago, when we first had the experience that led to this book, the notion that a group might be smarter than any of its members was a complete non-starter. By definition, groupthink was the lowest common denominator; everyone knew that a camel was a horse designed by a committee. Today, thanks to a clutch of best-selling books, we know better. But even now, although crowdsourcing, wikinomics, and open-source technology have become buzzwords in the business world, there is no practical guide to translate those concepts into usable tools and techniques.
