With too much organizational structure, you find yourself in a ditch: it’s all command and control, with no innovation. If you don’t have any structure, though, you’re facing a flood. Everything’s open, transparent, collaborative—but you’re not getting anything done. What I want is the optimal flow of a river. You’ve got just enough structure for decision-making and execution, but not so much that you’re stifling dialogue or innovation.
