15.6. Fine-Tuning DNS Request Distribution
We have seen that proper DNS-based request distribution can be impaired because of the originator problem, unknown hidden load factors, and client DNS masking. The originator problem may cause DNS to select CDN servers that are not close to HTTP clients, hidden load factors may lead to wrong load-balancing decisions by DNS, and the client DNS masking problem defeats DNS request distribution completely. Fortunately the DNS masking problem can be resolved by properly configuring the customer DNS servers, and therefore we assume this problem has been addressed.
