15.7. Data Consistency in CDNs

An important selling point of CDNs over forward proxies is that they allow closer coupling of CDN servers with content providers. This coupling allows a CDN to enforce strong replica consistency and supply accurate usage statistics to content providers. In fact, strong consistency is almost imperative for CDNs, because clients in this case assume they obtain content directly from origin servers. Thus clients can rightfully expect to always receive current content from a Web site.
