Registries are a very important part of the services vision. However, registry technology available today is still very nascent. There are several industry-level issues that need to be addressed and certain mindshifts that need to happen before the concept of registries (both public and private) moves into the mainstream — in much the same way that Web-searching portals of the likes of Yahoo! and Excite became popular only when Web sites were easily deployed and became accepted in people’s minds as a mechanism for information gathering.
