Inventing interactive 3D art
After looking at museums—a repository of the past—we now look at the future: new art displayed through interactive 3D. Video games and animated movies brought this art into the mainstream. In 1991, Disney's Beauty and the Beast received the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture and was the first animated movie to be nominated for the Best Picture award at the Oscar's. There may have been some sense in the fact that the Motion Pictures Academy was about to have the Best Picture award go to a movie with no live actors. Perhaps that is why a decade later, the Motion Pictures Academy introduced a new category for animated movies.
