Creating the first Domino server
Follow these steps to create a Domino server:
1. Prepare the TCP/IP environment. Refer to “Preparing the TCP/IP environment” on
page 386.
2. Start iSeries Navigator.
3. Expand
your system Network Servers.
4. Right-click
Domino and select New Domino Server.
5. If you see a window that asks about starting the Setup server, click
Yes.
6. After some time, a browser window opens. Enter your iSeries user ID and password and
click the
>> button.
7. Make sure that the
First Domino Server option is selected and click the >> button.
Note: You must have the following special authorities to run this command:
򐂰 *SECADM
򐂰 *ALLOBJ
򐂰 *JOBCTL
򐂰 *IOSYSCFG

8. The next page (Figure A-12) displays the settings for the new Domino server. Set or select
the following parameters:
a. In the Web Browsers field, select
HTTP and IIOP.
Collaborative portlets and components use IIOP to access and retrieve information
from Domino databases. If IIOP is running, portlets that access Domino-based
databases include a
picker feature that is available to portlet users. The picker feature
displays a list of content from Domino databases from which the portlet user can
select. Although IIOP is not required, it is a useful feature for the portal user.
b. In the Directory Services field, select the
LDAP check box. This enables LDAP support
for the names.nsf database.
c. In the Enterprise Connection Services field, deselect
DECS.
d. In the Advanced Services field, select
Partition.
e. When you are finished, click the
>> button.

Note: Do not select this check box if you plan to use OS/400 Directory Server.
Note: All Domino servers must be configured for partitioning. Otherwise you won’t
be able to add Domino servers.

9. On the next page (Figure A-13), set the following parameters:
a. Certifier Name represents the abbreviated name of your organization. It is appended to
every user and server
common name (cn). If you don’t specify a domain name on this
configuration page, the Certifier Name is used as the domain name.
In our example, we enter
itsoroch.ibm.com.
b. Server Name is the name for you Domino server. In our example, it’s
PORTALDOM1.
c. For Administrator’s Name, specify the name of your Domino administrator. In our
example, it’s
Don Juan.
d. For Password/Confirm Password, specify the password for your administrator. This
password is used to connect to this server from the Lotus Notes client or Domino
Administrator.
e. For Internet Password/Confirm Internet Password, specify a password for your
administrator to access the Domino server from a browser.
f. For Local Time Zone, select the time zone for your server.
g. Click the
>> button.

10.On the next page, specify the IP address of your new Domino server. Then click the >>
button.
11.On the next page, leave the defaults and click the
Finish button.
12.It may take several minutes to create a new Domino server. After the new server is
created, you should see the Congratulations page. This page shows the server directory,
