16.3. HTTP server separation from the application server
WebSphere provides four different alternatives for physically separating the HTTP server from the application server:
OSE Remote
Thick Servlet Redirector
Thick Servlet Redirector administrative server agent
Thin Servlet Redirector
Reverse Proxy / IP Forwarding
When compared to a configuration where the application server and the HTTP server are co-located on a single physical server, each of these alternatives can be utilized to provide varying degrees of improvement in:
Performance
Process isolation
Security
