When Vincent asked me to write this piece, I protested that I am anti-Photoshop and anti–post-shot manipulation, and generally I think it’s all an excuse for slovenly thinking and seeing. Vincent said, “Fine, it’s important for readers to know about all sides of the question.”

Photography is about vision. There is one major thing to remember after reading this book. Photoshop and other post-shot manipulations are corrections and addendums to your vision.
When I teach, I tell my students that the one phrase I don’t want to hear is, “I can fix it in Photoshop.” You are responsible for every square millimeter of your image at the time you shoot it.
