The actual writing of a play, like all writing, is usually a very private process about which even the author knows very little, but its evolution from first draft to finished script is a process shared with many people and is more open to examination. With the help of interviews with the author, Roberta Uno provides an introduction to Jeannie Barraga's Walls that shows how complex the making of a play can be. This selection starts with some background on Barraga's life and then considers how theatre can reflect some of the most pressing political and moral issues of our times. The text of this play can be read in Unbroken Thread: An Anthology of Plays by Asian American Women.
