THE SIMPLE QUESTION “How can I help?” is one that so many people forget to ask and then end up missing out on a very powerful opportunity for connection. It’s a question that reaches people’s hearts and minds with compassion. Genuine compassion in any scenario has the power to light others up.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, I called an MVP team meeting and said, “We need to call every client and ask how we can help them.” This has made all the difference in how our company has weathered and thrived during the pandemic and well beyond.

In almost every single meeting I have, I ask, “What can I do to help you? Essentially, how can I use my expertise to make your life better or easier?” This question often disarms people. When you come from a place of truly wanting to help, you’d be surprised at the reactions and the results that follow after asking this question.

Offering to Help

We live in a world where so many people think of things in terms of “What’s in it for me?” I believe this is backward. The questions we should all be asking are these:

  • How can we make each other better?
  • How can we help each other rise to even greater success by offering up our skills and talents to work together toward the common goal of success?
  • How can I make your life easier?
