Michael Milken

PHILANTHROPIST

Dubbed by Fortune magazine “The Man Who Changed Medicine,” Michael Milken first became interested in medical research in 1972, when his mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 1982, he formalized his philanthropy in the Milken Family Foundation, which works with more than one thousand organizations worldwide, launching and supporting extensive medical research and education programs.

A decade later, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer himself, Milken founded the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world’s largest private funder of prostate cancer research.
