A healthy weight gain

The amount of weight women gain during pregnancy varies enormously. The extra weight isn’t just the baby; it is also the placenta, amniotic fluid, increased blood volume and extra tissue in the breasts and uterus. It is also natural to lay down extra fat so that you have energy stores for breastfeeding. Some women have fluid retention during pregnancy, which contributes further to weight gain.

The general advice is that if you eat according to your appetite then you should gain a healthy amount of weight. Unfortunately, many women these days aren’t used to eating in response to hunger and fullness.
