Low GI eating

Low GI eating is beneficial for all pregnant women and their babies. If you are diabetic or have developed gestational diabetes since you’ve been pregnant you will probably have been told to eat more low GI foods (see page 112). If not, you may be wondering if low GI diets are just another fad and whether they are for you. Low GI diets are sometimes used for weight loss but those diets are low in calories as well as being low GI and they aren’t suitable for pregnancy. Here we are not talking about reducing calories, although if you need to cut down then eating low GI foods can make it easier.
