6.2. Resistance to Change
Fear of risk, the first warning symptom of a loss of nerve, can drastically reduce a company's flexibility and creativity. But when that fear becomes generalized into a broader fear of all kinds of change, the result can be paralysis, which often proves fatal. Hence, the second symptom you must be on the lookout for: resistance to change.
Innovation is a funny thing. Every company says it values innovation, but in practice many don't, especially when the heat is on. Stalled companies know they need to do something to increase the sophistication of their marketing efforts, but when loss of nerve strikes, they are often afraid of making a mistake.
